Sciatica & leg pain
Sciatica &
leg pain.
Pain through the buttock or leg can make a car ride, a work shift, or a familiar walk difficult. At Guam Chiropractic, Dr. Gary Larkin, D.C., listens to how symptoms travel and examines the relevant movement and nerve function to understand the pattern.
What sciatica means
Sciatica describes symptoms associated with irritation or compression of the sciatic nerve or its nerve roots. Pain commonly travels from the buttock down a leg, sometimes with tingling or numbness. Leg pain also has other causes, which makes an individual examination useful.
Connect symptoms with movement
Tell Dr. Gary where discomfort starts, how far it travels, and how sitting, standing, or walking affects it. The examination considers the lower back, hips, relevant joints, muscles, and nerves. He explains the findings and how chiropractic care may fit your needs.
Work toward everyday activity
Your goals might include a more comfortable commute, time in the garden, or getting through your usual walking route. Discussing these activities helps keep care focused on function as well as discomfort, with changes you can describe at later visits.
Your questions, answered.
Does sciatica always reach the foot?
Symptoms can follow different patterns and may be felt in the buttock, thigh, lower leg, or foot. Describe your own route of pain or tingling rather than trying to match it to a label.
Can I come in when leg pain is my main concern?
Yes. Tell Dr. Gary how the leg symptoms affect you, even if your back is relatively comfortable. He considers where the symptoms are felt and the structures that may be contributing to them.
